General information

Application period

15 February till 15 March for the winter semester

    • Graduation certificate from an artistic-creative course of study at a state higher education institution
      • In justified exceptional cases, admission can also be granted if the aptitude required for the course of study has been acquired in the profession instead of a university degree (min. three years of intensive occupation with artistic content - artistic, creative or conceptual)
    • At least one year working experience in a relevant professional field
    • Artistic talent
    • German language skills C1 according to CEFR

     

    • Standard period of study: 4 semesters (if part-time then 6), 120 credit points
    • Degree: Master of Arts (M.A.)

All of the steps listed below must be completed within the application period for the respective study programme. We recommend that you submit your application as early as possible within the application period so that you can clarify any questions that may arise with our StudyGuide in good time.

  • Register and verify your identity (if you have not already done so) on the UdK Berlin application portal: https://my.udk-berlin.de

     

  • Fee per application: EUR 30.00 (plus fees for international transfers)

  • During the application process, you will be asked to submit formal documents. Please prepare these as individual PDF files (max. 5 MB each).

    • Curriculum vitae
    • University degree certificate
    • Transcript of records for the BA degree
    • Preliminary examination document (VPD) from uni-assist, if applicable (see FAQs)
    • Proof of German language proficiency at C1 level according to CEFR for international applicants (see FAQs)
      • Application also possible with German B2
    • Proof of payment of application fees
    • Letter of motivation including your own objectives within the framework of your studies
    • Proof of qualified professional experience
      • Minimum one year, full-time
      • E.g. employment references, employer certificates
  • Log in to the application portal (https://my.udk-berlin.de) and submit an application for admission to your desired study programme within the application period and upload the formal documents.

    Audio and video works must be submitted with the name, title, content (brief), length and year. 

    • Scope of the portfolio: approx. 5-10 pages of artistic project documentation or your own artistic work.
    • If there are several authors, the applicant's contribution to the work must be described and clearly identifiable.

Admission procedure

What happens after the application?

The admission procedure consists of the pre-selection based on the uploaded portfolio and the entrance examination.
In this examination, tasks relating to the degree program must be completed. There may be an interview with the admissions committee.

The pre-selected applicants will receive all further information on the procedure with the invitation by e-mail.
