Jazz Master (Vocal/Instrumental)

Application deadline

15 October to 15 November for the summer semester 

    • university degree in the Bachelor's degree program "Jazz (Vocal/Instrumental)" at the Jazz-Institut Berlin or in a comparable course of study of at least six semesters at another music university in Germany or abroad
    • special artistic talent
    • english language skills B2 according to CEFR

     

    • Standard period of study: 4 semesters, 120 credits

All of the steps listed below must be completed within the application period for the respective study programme. We recommend that you submit your application as early as possible within the application period so that you can clarify any questions that may arise with our StudyGuide in good time.

  • Register and verify your identity (if you have not already done so) on the UdK Berlin application portal: https://my.udk-berlin.de

     

  • Fee per application: EUR 30.00 (plus fees for international transfers)

    For international transfers:

  • During the application process, you will be asked to submit formal documents. Please prepare these as individual PDF files (max. 5 MB each).

    Formal documents:

    • Curriculum vitae with details of personal, artistic and professional background
    • University degree certificate
    • Transcript of records for the BA degree
    • Preliminary examination document (VPD) from uni-assist, if applicable (see FAQs)
    • Proof of German language proficiency at B2 level or English language proficiency at B2 level according to CEFR for international applicants (see FAQs)
      • Application also possible with German B1 or English B1
    • Proof of payment of application fees
    • Proof of professional activities/training, if applicable
  • Log in to the application portal (https://my.udk-berlin.de) and submit an application for admission to your desired study programme within the application period and upload the formal documents.

Portfolio

Within the application deadline, upload a digital documentation of the artistic skills (work samples from the field of jazz) for which you are solely or mainly responsible to the upload platform bemus (duration 10-15 minutes in total), accompanying texts must be submitted in German or English.

no more than 8 GB in total, max. 10 files

The  files must be named according to the following pattern:
Surname_First_Name_Applicant_Number_Study_Content.

Admission pocedure

What happens after the application?

The admission procedure consists of the pre-selection and the entrance examination.

Those who have passed the pre-selection will be invited to the entrance examination, which is expected to take place on site at the JIB.  Admission to the course is decided on the basis of the entrance examination.

 The entrance examination consists of the following parts:

  •     Evaluation of the submitted work samples
  •     Audition (duration: approx. 20 minutes) of a self-chosen varied program with improvisational parts from the field of jazz - own compositions desired - with own ensemble or ensemble provided by the institute
  •     Colloquium (duration: approx. ten minutes)

Applicants will receive a detailed information sheet on the entrance examination with their invitation.
