Design and Building Construction I
Professorship Something Fantastic
In this design studio, we investigate changing forms of living and dwelling (Lebensform and Wohnform), and the architectural typologies (Bauform) that respond to them. Our current research focus is the long-term use of (residential) space. Through analytical inquiry and design-based research, we aim to contribute to more sufficient and responsible uses of space—both within the existing building stock and in new construction—in order to advance ecological, social, and economic sustainability in architecture and building practice.
In our occupation with the design of Constellations Types, we question the boundaries that define the aggregation of spaces commonly referred to as a “dwelling” or a “house.” We explore and develop new forms of living for constellations before, during, after, and beyond the conventional nuclear family household.
