Expanded Reality: Algorithmic Incantations & Dreaming Engines
When fragments of presence linger in digital space, when generative systems weave memory into patterns, and when virtual objects respond to subtle shifts of perception, what new modes of being and awareness begin to surface? As the boundaries between material and simulation dissolve and time folds into layered system of past, present, and imagined futures, how might we inhabit and shape these emergent temporal landscapes?
This foundational course explores how digital tools can function as contemporary talismans, transforming text, image, and procedural processes into temporal structures that warp chronology, resurrect memory, and traverse the boundaries between personal and collective experience. Game engines and creative platforms such as Unity serve as primary frameworks for systemic improvisation, allowing students to layer personal narratives across virtual and physical space, past and present.
In the first three and a half days, we’ll engage in in-depth art case studies and hands-on work, including 3D scanning, AI generating & simulation, advanced particle systems, and 3D soundscapes in Unity, to integrate personal aesthetic experience gradually. On the last day of the workshop, students will present their Final Projects/Processes.
