ICM - Constructing Improvised Mobilities
Twisting, turning, folding, throwing - we usually use these terms to describe the use of materials in creative processes, be they haptic, material, musical or architectural.
This seminar brings materials and processes together synaesthetically: Polyphony moves objects, clothing produces counterpoints, objects produce sounds when touched. Such systemic and synaesthetic ideas are not new, but have left traces at different times and in different places around the world, which still inform artistic practices today and often also create possibility spaces for transcultural encounters.
In thinking together music theory and composition, generative arts and textile and fashion design, this seminar with professors Alberto de Campo, Berit Greinke and Ariane Jeßulat explores the experimental merging of historical and current methods for working with textile, generative and musical algorithms and patterns, in search of connections between formulaic structures and their design possibilities as sound in space, as musical form and as movable textile.
The aim of this cross-faculty project work is to create performances that use installations and improvisation with voices, bodies and objects/instruments to create transitions between analog and digital processes, to rediscover old cultural practices (weaving, embroidery, counterpoint, geodesy, shipbuilding, radio transmission) in digital processes and to create new forms of music.
With Ariane Jessulat, Berit Greinke and Alberto de Campo.
