ABOUT
Sound as a Medium of Art
The English-language Master's program 'Sound Studies and Sonic Arts' serves to deepen theoretical and practical skills in the fields of audio related theory and practice, particularly in sound art as installation and performance, in sound design and audiovisual media production as well as in sound related cultural studies, musicology, aesthetics and architecture. Students are exposed to methods of artistic and creative practices, artistic research as well as scientific and theoretical work. Graduates will develop their own artistic signature and will be able to apply aspects of auditive art and culture and their conveyance and consulting as well as scientific reflection within their professional field, as sound artists, curators, designers or others.
At UdK's Sound Studies and Sonic Arts program, the MA candidates are emerging artists, researchers, producers, conceptual composers, philosophers and curators. They come from a diverse variety of backgrounds and cultures and meet in the avant-garde melting pot of Berlin.
Berlin is the cultural hub of Europe, and a birthplace of modern Sound Art in practice and theory. A city where creativity is everywhere, and a haven for artists and scholars. With festivals like CTM, Atonal, MaerzMusik and the DYSTOPIA sound art biennial, and events organised by Singuhr Hörgalerie, the Errant Sound project space and our own Sound Studies department, for someone looking to deepen their practice there is no better place to be.
We encourage you to apply, and welcome applications from a wide range of backgrounds and perspectives. For more information on the application process please click here or contact: ask@sounds.berlin
