Unheard Resistance – Musica inaudita meets SOUB – crescendo

Marcel Ünal

The Symphonic Orchestra Utopy Berlin (SOUB) has a clear mission: to make the music of marginalised composers visible and audible, to perform works beyond the established canon that are artistically outstanding yet rarely heard on stage. That is exactly what will happen this evening.

Joseph Bologne Chevalier de Saint-Georges (1745–1799): Symphony No. 1 in G Major, Op. 11
Grażyna Bacewicz (1909–1969): Violin Concerto No. 2, 2nd Movement: Romance
Grażyna Bacewicz (1909–1969): Violin Concerto No. 3
Samuel Coleridge-Taylor (1875–1912): Ballade für Orchester a-Moll op.33

Through the work of the SOUB, musicians discover marginalized composers, actively perform their works, expand their repertoire, and gain new perspectives on music history. At the same time, the orchestra brings together people from diverse backgrounds, age groups, and educational paths, forming an ensemble that not only addresses diversity but lives it.

This evening will feature works by the Polish violinist and composer Grażyna Bacewicz, as well as by Samuel Coleridge-Taylor and Joseph Bologne Chevalier de Saint-Georges. For the first time, orchestral music will be combined with dance in the Grand Concert Hall of the Berlin University of the Arts (UdK). The audience is invited to ask themselves: How does music influence dance, and how does dance influence music?

Support us!

Financially speaking, we are currently particularly reliant on support. The Berlin Senate’s cuts in the areas of culture and education are affecting us as well—among other things through cost-cutting measures at the university and the general reductions in funding.

Although we are constantly working to expand our financial resources, many of these efforts are not promising under the current conditions. Yet our work and the implementation of our projects depend on reliable funding. Therefore, we appreciate every donation to

You can donate here.

Thank you very much!
