Prof. Dr. Matthias Pasdzierny

Matthias Pasdzierny studied music, musicology and German literature in Stuttgart, Berlin and Krakow. From 2007 he was a research assistant at the Berlin University of the Arts, where he completed his doctorate in 2013 with the thesis Wiederaufnahme? Rückkehr aus dem Exil und das westdeutsche Musikleben nach 1945. From 2009 to 2014 he was a research assistant at the DFG project "Kontinuitäten und Brüche im Musikleben der Nachkriegszeit" at the UdK Berlin. Since 2016, Pasdzierny has been head of the Bernd Alois Zimmermann Complete Edition at the Berlin-Brandenburg Academy of Sciences and Humanities (www.zimmermann-gesamtausgabe.de).

Since January 1, 2024, Matthias Pasdzierny is a junior academy professor at the Berlin University of the Arts (tenure track W2); BBAW and UdK hold the professorship jointly.

  • Bernd Alois Zimmermann-Gesamtausgabe; critical edition of the compositions, writings and part of the letters of Bernd Alois Zimmermann (funded by Akademienprogramm des Bundes und der Länder)
  • APSearch.org; search engine und metadata harvester for historical sound recordings of the Arab world (funded by AGYA/BMBF)
  • The Sound of Siwa; restudy and recirculation of Brigitte Schiffer's ethnographic research in the Eastern Sahara (1932-35) (funded by AGYA/BMBF)
