Performance of “Their desire rang through the halls and into the tower” at a festival in Utrecht

Performance of “Their desire rang through the halls and into the tower” at a festival in Utrecht

“Their desire rang through the halls and into the tower” is a twenty-minute performance around the intertwining histories of Anna Maria van Schurman, the first female university student in Europe, who attended Utrecht University in the 17th century, and the development of one of the foremost Women’s Studies research schools in Europe at the same university. A group of performers, all current or former students of Gender Studies in Utrecht, speak a “political diagramme“ composed of layered and partial accounts of this trans-historical community. Alex Martinis Roe led If I Can’t Dance’s Summer Open Reading Group in 2013.

This performance is part of the festival Performance Days (27 November – 3 December) located all over Utrecht and commissioned by Casco – Office for Art, Design and Theory, Utrecht and co-presented with If I Can’t Dance, I Don’t Want To Be Part Of Your Revolution.
