A free drink voucher leads three strangers into the bar Zum offenen Herzen (The Open Heart). There, they are served the tragic love story of a deceased author who can now only express herself through songs: Marina meets Sonja. They fall in love — like in a dream. But in 1920s Russia, their love exists only outside of society’s acceptance.
Marina soon discovers the void in Sonja’s life: the missing child. The couple breaks apart over the seeming impossibility of reconciling their visions for life.
Even a century later, Marina needs the voices of others to relive her story again and again. She wants to prove that love must always die.
