Berlin University of the Arts maintains a consistent visual identity. The aim is to position UdK Berlin as a strong and recognisable overarching brand. Within this framework, the use of sub-logos is clearly regulated.
Principle
At UdK Berlin, the following applies:
Individual logos for projects, initiatives, events or organisational units are generally not permitted.
Communication is conducted using the central UdK logo and the design elements of the corporate design.
Sub-logos as an exception
Sub-logos may only be used in justified exceptional cases. The following criteria must be met:
Sub-logos must not compromise the unified visual identity of UdK Berlin.
Approval
The development and use of sub-logos is only possible following prior consultation and approval:
Please note:
No independent logos may be developed or used without prior approval.
Alternative design options
For projects and events, a wide range of design possibilities is available within the corporate design framework, for example:
Where a sub-logo has exceptionally been approved, its use in any medium must be clearly linked to UdK Berlin as the primary sender.
Principle
UdK Berlin always remains the primary sender of communication.
The sub-logo is subordinate and must not dominate or override the perception of the overall brand.
Placement
The UdK logo must always be present and clearly visible.
The sub-logo is to be used in a subordinate position, both spatially and visually, for example:
in the lower section of a medium
near sender or attribution information
not in the primary focal area (e.g. header or key visual)
Size relationship
The sub-logo must be smaller than, or at most equal in size to, the UdK logo, but never more prominent.
The visual hierarchy must clearly favour UdK Berlin.
Design integration
The sub-logo must be integrated into the existing corporate design.
It must not develop an independent brand identity that contradicts UdK Berlin.
Colours, typography and visual language must align with the UdK Berlin corporate design.
Avoiding ambiguity
The combination of the UdK logo and the sub-logo must clearly communicate:
The offering is part of UdK Berlin.
Any independent sender effect of the sub-logo must be avoided.
