International Berlin Bach Competition

General information

The most famous sons of Johann Sebastian Bachs, were during their lifetimes more famous than Johann Sebastian himself. Between 1740 and 1784 - for 43 years - they influenced strongly the Berlin musical life in the mid of the 18th century.

Decesive impulses did non only come by their compositions but also by shaping a new self-image as artist and teacher. Moreover, as authors of instructive books and texts, they took an active part in the musical, literal and philosophical circles in the awakening bourgeoisie in the enlightened Berlin.

The competition is a cooperation between the Universität der Künste Berlin and the Early Music Society Berlin e.V.
