Prof. Carolin Lerch
Kurzvita
Carolin Lerch lives and works in Antwerp/ Belgium. After her graduation at the fashion department of the Royal Academy for Fine Arts in Antwerp she followed a course for mixed media at the Royal Academy for Fine Arts in Ghent with an emphasis on video art. She sets up her own platform with her label pelican avenue in 2004. The label's intention is to question conventional codes of fashion, to propose a different approach, to avoid stagnation and complacency. It tries to form an opposition to constantly changing trends and the destructive attitude of hypes.
Each single design is determined by formal and personal reflections on contemporary subjects. The products have to reflect these ideas and still have to function as wearable clothes. The results are presented with different kinds of media like video, photography, installation, and performance.
pelican video is the supplying video and multimedia project, in cooperation with multi media artist Michiel Helbig.
The basic intention of the pelican projects as well as the produced pieces is rather challenging the unknown than developing one certain style or idea.
Carolin Lerch is representing with pelican avenue at the paris fashion week on a regular base. She has designed and developed uniforms for Mu.Zee - the museum for modern art in Ostend and works as a knitwear and textile designer for Peter Pilotto in London. With pelican avenue and pelican video her work has also been part of shows at Kunsthalle Zürich, Modebiennale Arnhem, concept store PARK Vienna and more
