Prof. Holger Neumann

Holger Neumann studied electrical engineering in Bochum and industrial design at the Kassel Art Academy. After graduating in 1995, he worked on industrial and interior design projects, including for Ascom AG (Switzerland) and the Museum for Sepulchral Culture in Kassel (with TEO Design, Kassel). As a scholarship holder of the Bremen Senator for Economic Affairs, he designed concepts for high-speed ferries at the Bremerhaven Design Laboratory.

From 1996 to 2006, he shaped the product design of Brilliant AG near Bremen, where he established the design department and later also headed technical product development. During this time, he was responsible for the design of luminaires and lighting systems as well as the establishment of production structures in Asia.

In 2006, he was appointed professor of technology and construction in the industrial design programme at the Berlin University of the Arts. He heads designtransfer – the gallery and event platform of the Faculty of Design – and was vice-dean of the faculty and director of the Institute for Product and Process Design (IPP).

Holger Neumann initiated and supervised research projects on sustainable materials and teaching in the field of ecodesign – including in cooperation with the manufacturer System 180, IDZ Berlin and the Federal Environment Agency. His work has been nominated for the Federal Ecodesign Award and the Index Award, among others.
