Juana Awad is a Colombian-Canadian curator, artist, and researcher based in Berlin, who works at the intersections of aesthetic theory and artistic practice. She studied theatre, fine art media, semiotics and cultures of the curatorial in Toronto, London, and Leipzig. Her principal interests lie in the intermingling of curatorial and decolonial practices, the effects of institutional processes on the reception of art, and the political potential of arts and culture presenting. Awad’s video works have been screened internationally and are distributed by VTAPE (Toronto) and GIV (Montréal). She has curated for various film and arts institutions and led large arts and research initiatives internationally. Firmly grounded in decolonial conceptual frameworks, her current work historicizes diasporic curatorial practices in postmigrant Germany. Awad was most recently an artistic research fellow at the Käte Hamburger Kolleg inherit.heritage in transformation at the Humboldt-University Berlin, funded by the Federal Ministry of Research, Technology and Space, with her project Transcultural Heritage. Juana Awad ist eine kolumbianisch-kanadische Kuratorin, Künstlerin und Forscherin mit Sitz in Berlin. Sie arbeitet an den Schnittstellen von ästhetischer Theorie und künstlerischer Praxis. Awad studierte Theater, Bildende Kunst, Semiotik und Kulturen des Kuratorischen in Toronto, London und Leipzig. Ihre Hauptinteressen liegen in der Verschränkung von kuratorischen und dekolonialen Praktiken, den Auswirkungen institutioneller Prozesse auf die Rezeption von Kunst und dem politischen Potenzial der Präsentation von Kunst und Kultur.
