Platforms

The archiving and publishing requires high-quality platforms (repositories) that are aligned with international standards.

They guarantee

  • long-term storage

In view of technical developments, the long-term accessibility of data must be guaranteed. The trustworthiness of a platform with regard to long-term archiving is characterised by information on the implementation of the standard reference model for long-term digital archives, the Open Archival Information System (OAIS).

  • optimal visibility

Information on publications / data must be searchable in common information sources. This is achieved by being catalogued in library catalogues and subject portals as well as being visible in search engines.

  • secure/unambiguous quotability

Publications / data are provided with so-called persistent identifiers and can be retrieved permanently. The Digital Object Identifier (DOI) is the established standard.

Corresponding platforms are divided into institutional and disciplinary. Institutional platforms are generally operated by the institution itself and are usually only available to its own members. Disciplinary platforms are open to all according to the respective publication criteria. You can find a curated list of disciplinary offerings by NFDI4Culture.

The University Library will support you in choosing the platform most suitable for you.
