Harry Curtis
was born in Cambridge and began his musical career as a choirboy at St George's Chapel, Windsor. He studied conducting at the Royal Academy of Music in London and at the Berlin University of the Arts. In 2002, he was a prize winner at the Leeds Conducting Competition. He has conducted the London Symphony Orchestra, the Bournemouth Symphony Orchestra, the Berliner Symphoniker, the Wuppertal Symphony Orchestra, the Stavanger Symfoniorkest and the Orchestra of Opera North, among others. In 1996, Harry Curtis took over as conductor of the London Chamber Group and in 2001 he was appointed conductor of the London Pergolesi Sinfonietta. From 2005 to 2013, he was principal conductor of the Bochum Symphony Orchestra, where he also conducted the 120-strong Bochum Philharmonic Choir. Harry Curtis has also appeared at international music festivals such as the Ruhrtriennale, the New York Lincoln Center Festival and the Spoleto Festival USA. Since 2014, the Symphony Orchestra of the Berlin University of the Arts has performed under his baton on several occasions. As professor of orchestral conducting and orchestral education at the Berlin University of the Arts, he heads the conducting programme there, which has become one of the most sought-after addresses for conducting training. In addition to frequent masterclasses at home and abroad, he acts as a consultant for various European conducting courses. He is an associate of the Royal Academy of Music.
