(Non)Belonging Practices: Showcase Exile ist ein praktischer Kurs, der das Konzept des Exils im Kontext globaler Veränderungen und Migrationsströme durch künstlerische Praktiken untersucht. Das Format basiert auf der jahrelangen multidisziplinären Arbeit von Ksenia Ravvina und beschäftigt sich mit Exil als einem komplexen, nuancierten Zustand des (Nicht-)Zugehörens. Ihr Ansatz, geprägt von einer transnationalen Perspektive, erweitert das Verständnis von Exil weit über die physische Vertreibung hinaus und begreift es als einen dynamischen Prozess, der von kulturellen Spannungen und persönlichen Transformationen begleitet wird und sich gleichzeitig angesichts ständig wandelnder Umfelder herausgefordert sieht. Durch Literatur, performative Künste und Film wird die Subjektivität des Entkommens thematisiert, wobei künstlerische Praktiken als Räume für Flucht, Widerstand und Anerkennung fungieren. Zudem wird untersucht, wie Erinnerungen und deren Wiederaufleben durch temporäre oder langandauernde Zuflucht sowie das Leben in einer fremden Umgebung beeinflusst werden.

Leistungsanforderungen für den unbenoteten Schein: Aktive und regelmäßige Teilnahme. Vorkenntnisse sind nicht erforderlich; die Bereitschaft zur eigenständigen künstlerischen Arbeit wird vorausgesetzt.

(Non)Belonging Practices: Showcase Exileis a practice-based course that explores the concept of exile in the context of global transformations and migration flows through artistic practices. The format is based on the long-standing multidisciplinary work of Ksenia Ravvina and engages with exile as a complex and nuanced condition of (non-)belonging. Shaped by a transnational perspective, her approach expands the understanding of exile far beyond physical displacement and conceives of it as a dynamic process marked by cultural tensions and personal transformations, while at the same time being challenged by constantly shifting environments. Through literature, performative arts, and film, the subjectivity of departure is addressed, with artistic practices functioning as spaces for escape, resistance, and recognition. In addition, the course examines how memory and its reactivation are influenced by temporary or long-term refuge, as well as by living in unfamiliar or foreign environments.

Requirements for ungraded credits: Active and regular participation. No prior knowledge is required; willingness to engage in independent artistic work is expected.

Ksenia Ravvina is a Berlin-based theatre director, author, and curator. She studied History at Saint Petersburg State University, Theatre Directing in Frankfurt, and Applied Theatre Studies at Justus Liebig University Giessen. Her work is situated at the intersection of performance/theatre, opera, and concept-driven, interdisciplinary artistic practices, addressing absence, visibility, and estrangement. It is characterized by the scenic articulation of complex theoretical positions through an artistic language in which political and poetic dimensions are closely intertwined. In recent years, she has developed and presented projects in Germany, Bulgaria, Latvia, and the United States, with work shown and produced in collaboration with institutions such as Staatstheater Wiesbaden, Theater und Orchester Heidelberg, Staatstheater Darmstadt, Schauspielhaus Bochum, Dirty Deal Teatro (Riga), Künstlerhaus Mousonturm Frankfurt, Frankfurt LAB, Schwankhalle Bremen, Tanzplattform Rhein-Main, RUHRTRIENNALE, Opera Philadelphia, Theater im Delphi, and Deutsches Theater Berlin. Since autumn 2023, she has served as Co-Artistic Director of Fringify – Independent Arts Festival Hamburg and will lead the festival editions from 2024 to 2026.
