“Room to Expand” is a transdisciplinary and interdisciplinary festival in which students critically examine current concepts of art. The seemingly fixed framework concepts such as authorship, exhibition space, production conditions and art reception are examined and renegotiated as part of the art project.

Room to Expand provides space to develop art outside the fixed paths, so, in order to find project partners, this year there will be several introduction days at the beginning of the semester for participants from different faculties to meet and introduce themselves and their ideas, works, and projects. In addition, there will be a different setup with the possibility of some financial support for new productions, and a pool of engaged people to help mentor the different groups.

Room to Expand is:

1. A reoccurring event in the semester, like a yearly transdisciplinary festival with presentations of time-based, and performative formats such as research based art projects, digital projects, participatory projects, collaborative cross-disciplinary projects, (site-specific) performances, community projects, audio walks, short films, videos, VR projects, public space projects, book projects, etc.

Goal of this festival is to make visible and actively promote artistic works, projects and strategies that go beyond the classic framework of artistic mediums, I.e. formats that are more difficult to realize during the traditional Rundgang of the UdK in the summer.

2. A Platform for exchange, a space to meet new people, and a work process with a first kick-off event at the beginning of the semester. This will be the initial venue from where students can get to know the project, each other, form groups and start working on concepts for projects. Each group can propose their project at the first meetings and can choose one or more mentors that can support them and give feedback. Supervisors/mentors should be sought by the student producers (group) themselves. It is not obligatory that it should be someone within the group of initiating teachers, and associated teacher.

Fulfilment criteria for ungraded accreditation: active and regular participation, presentation of individual or collaborative work.
