Moodle Enrollment Key / Einschreibeschlüssel: chaos

A state of disorder. Unpredictable behavior. From the Greek χάος, meaning ‘abyss’ or ‘open void’.
The climate crisis is transforming the planet into a terrain of fires, floods, droughts and dwindling biodiversity; in many places, this is turning into ecocide, the systematic or deliberate collapse of habitats and life. At the same time, χάος in its original meaning also refers to an open expanse from which something new can emerge. Narratives of authority respond by enforcing control in trying to restore "order". Embracing chaos instead becomes and has always been an activist, queer and feminist strategy: Moments of breakdown spark solidarity networks, complexities, and  cultural responses.

Steps:

  • chaotic walking ~ with Guerilla Architects
  • text-mapping ~ 'Staying with the trouble'by Donna Haraway
  • crochet ~ with Omas4Future and ArtsAgainstEcocide

The event is part of Studium Planetare. Studium Planetare is a two-year, student-initiated and student-led pilot project by Klasse Klima in collaboration with the Studium Generale of the Berlin University of the Arts. Studium Planetare offers students and teachers at the Berlin University of the Arts and beyond a forward-looking and interlinked range of courses on climate justice and planetary futures. Studium Planetare is funded by the Foundation for Innovation in Higher Education in the “Freiraum 2023” program line. More information is available at www.klasseklima.org and www.studiumplanetare.de.

Klasse Klima is an open, autonomous and transdisciplinary collective. It communicates the climate crisis in art and design practice and education with a focus on issues of justice. Klasse Klima intervenes in educational politics and creates student-led seminars in art universities.

Studio Space Production (Institute of Architecture): Interested in the multidimensionality of spaces, we aim to frame architecture as an aesthetic, political, social and procedural design. Working with questions based in concrete and therefore complex urban situations, we enter these situations and seek to develop within scenarios for their possible futures. The city is a community formed from potentials and ambitions. If architecture can be seen as a product of spatial and urban practice, we want to critically question its conditions and search for new agencies in spatial production.
