About
Are you interested in discussions about sustainable ecology and diversity? Do you want to make academia a more inclusive space? Do you want to make your campus a more ecologically sustainable place?
Come and join the other garden: an inclusive space on ecology, art and diversity.
the.other.garden is a collaborative artistic research project at the University of the Arts Berlin (UdK) that has been bringing together discussions on ecology, inclusivity, diversity, and care since 2021. Located in the backyard of the UdK building on Mierendorffstraße, the project has transformed this space into an experiential garden where we grow neophytes and other plants. At the same time, it functions as a living artistic research space where artists, students, and researchers come together to reflect on ecological practices and discuss critical questions of our time.
Through talks, workshops, and collaborative gatherings, the.other.garden explores how ecological thinking can be connected to questions of care, belonging, and diversity within academic environments.
For the upcoming SIG (special interest group), you are invited to seed your plant and activate the community space with your own input related to the garden. It will be complemented by pre-organised key happenings:
- Embodied Somatic Practices
Deepen your roots through meditation and body awareness exercises. - Gardening & Care
A collaborative session on gardening and caring for our plants. - Cooking with Seasonal Ingredients
Led by Jasmine Parsley, this session focuses on collecting and cooking with local ingredients. - Herbs Workshop
A workshop led by Leonardo Lodeserto focusing on herbal knowledge. - Perspective of a Garden
A talk exploring themes connected to our garden.
The project aims to promote and make visible artistic and research practices by and for those who are often underrepresented in academia and the arts—particularly women, members of the LGBTQIA+ community, people of color, and early-career practitioners.
