Elastic Electronic: soft sensors
Workshop leader: Fang Tsai
In this workshop, we explore the world of e-textiles—working with conductive threads, yarns, and fabrics to transform touch, pressure and stretch into dynamic signals. These signals allow us to map specific body movements and poses to sound, sonifying the body’s spatial relationships and gestures.
Open to all students—regardless of prior experience with electronics or microcontrollers—we’ll start with the fundamentals: understanding electricity, measuring resistance, and then move on to sewing or knitting our own soft sensors. Finally, we’ll connect our DIY creations to a custom Max/MSP patch developed by Prof. Berit Greinke and Federico Visi as part of the Wearable Computing research programm at UdK Berlin.
This is a space for experimentation and curiosity—where fabric becomes responsive, and movement takes on new dimensions through sound and interaction.
