ANYA TSARUK - Photographer - ARTIST TALK – Vortrag

Mother Land (2022)

ANYA TSARUK

Anya Tsaruk is a Ukrainian photographer based in Berlin. Her recent project "Mother Land" (2022) narrates the physical and emotional journey her mother embarked on to seek refuge in Berlin, following Russiaʼs full-scale invasion of their homeland, Ukraine.

The work explores themes of the mother-daughter relationship, forced migration and war, and the meaning of home, identity and belonging.

In this talk, Anya Tsaruk will present the project and talk about her experiences as a Ukrainian photographer during the Russo-Ukrainian War. She will also discuss how visual and spoken languages shape our perception of this war, and how a personal artistic project can be placed within a broader political context.
