Theresa Zschaebitz / bc architects
The presentation at Klasse Klima will show a peak into BCs multitude of works and how diverse architectural practice can find answers to the question of how we can construct the future. Understanding architecture as prototyping, taking agency for materials and building alliances for collective learning shape BCs projects and are presented through exemplary works as the Lot 8 project in Arles, France or USquare reconversion in Brussels, Belgium.
BC is BC architects & studies & materials. BC stands for Brussels Cooperation and points to how BC grew - embedded within place and people. BC operates through 3 legal entities registered in Belgium: BC architects bv (architecture company), BC studies vzw (non-profit education laboratory), BC materials cv (material production cooperative). BC is a hybrid practice, designing and undertaking "acts of building" towards systemic change in the construction sector. BC strives for bioregional, low-tech, circular, beautiful and inclusive design. They work with their minds and hands, undertaking activities such as community organisation, material production, contracting, teaching, prototyping. BC aims to impact positively on people's ideas and planet and to act on behalf of the generations after us.
Theresa Zschäbitz is an architect and researcher working at the intersection of design, construction, and material innovation, with a focus on regenerative building practices and the cultural potential of architecture in a world in polycrisis. Her work explores how materials, making, and collaboration can drive new forms of sustainable construction techniques and architectural expression. Theresa is an alumni of BC architects & studies & materials and has built up BCs Junior professorship at RWTH Aachen University with Jun.Prof. Laurens Bekemans, where she co-led teaching and research on earth- and biobased materials, experiential learning methods, design-build projects, and circular construction. She is since November 2026 working for Bauhaus Earth in Berlin.

land*scapes are memory – they forget neither colonialism nor the climate crisis, and they will also remember AI. Soil samples are not the only evidence of how human ideas and activities shape landscapes. If we learn to read them, we see more than forests, seas, mountains and idyllic nature. They are the result of attributions, interventions and power relations – and bear traces of colonialism, extractivism and ecological destruction. At the same time, they open up spaces for resistance, regeneration, care, diversity and creativity. They tell of borders and resistance, of care and displacement.
In our winter lecture series, we encounter one of these landscapes and artistic perspectives on climate justice each week. Methods and practices show how landscapes are shaped by language, perspectives and boundaries – and how different perceptions arise depending on the angle of view. How do we shape landscapes and how do they shape us? What needs to change in order to preserve the foundations of life? And what role can art play in this?
We invite you to become part of these land*scapes: to listen to them, feel them and change them creatively. Together, we will create a winter landscape full of knowledge, experiences and encounters across the degree programmes. The event will conclude with a cosy hot drink.
