In this lecture, we explore how artistic approaches can engage with scientific data archives—especially when dealing with highly complex and abstract topics such as global warming. At the center is the Klimaton Arctic sound instrument, a resonating body of the Arctic that translates measurement data into sound. Combining elements of a sonification device and a musical instrument, it offers a playful and sensorial way of accessing scientific content. Together, we will present the instrument and discuss alternative forms of archiving—with a hands-on moment at the sound object itself.

The artist duo Adnan Softić  and Nina Softić work in Berlin and Sarajevo. Their collaborative practice explores the relationship between aesthetics and politics / ecology, focusing on phenomena such as invisibility, communicability, exile, extraterritoriality, culture and violence. Their working process is a hybrid of poetic and philosophico-scientific explorations. They pursue a research-based and interdisciplinary work that is located in art, film, music and theatre as well as in academic contexts.

This summer, we are going on a collective search for clues and asking: What on Earth is the planetary? And where can we find it here at the Kunsthochschule? Who do we want to learn from? And what do we want to unlearn together along the way?

Every Monday, we explore a different artistic, scientific or political field related to the climate crisis. Guests from various fields such as care, critique of capitalism, queerness, decolonization or art share their expertise, methods and utopias with us. It‘s not just about discovering and understanding new fields and contexts. We try out common languages and create space for planetary exchange among the study programs. We learn together and engage with the real environment. Depending on the weather, the lecture will take place in the UdK courtyard. There we make connections to the real environment, living beings and structures in the university ecosystem.

After the event, we want to end the evening together in the inner courtyard with a soda.
