Sound practices, which also include music, constitute a fundamental field of approach to different cultural contexts. The study, both of their formal characteristics and of the spheres in which sounds are presented, reveal to us possible conceptual and procedural tools for creative practice, from our own ways of understanding sound, also inspiring an enriching dialogue of mutual recognition. Furthermore, interactive, and interdisciplinary proposals of sound installation in public space, often explore relationship between materials, space and territory, as epistemological fields.

In his artist talk Dr. Fernando Palacios Mateos, an artist, musicologist and performer will delve into several of his research and artistic works. Divided in two sections, the talk contextualizes the study of sound practices, a set of diverse proceedings, operations, techniques, and actions that, premeditated or not, use, involve or derive on sounds. In the second part, the artist will show a series of artistic works which have been developed and framed within a doctoral program, as a practice-based PhD thesis. Here the materials, space and territory, as epistemological fields in sound art, are discussed.
