From the winter semester 2022/23, the UdK’s International Conducting Academy Berlin (ICAB) will offer a Bachelor's degree in conducting to complement the Master's degree and the Advanced Professional Training for Conductors. In keeping with the principles of  ICAB, practical work with orchestras and ensembles is the focal point of the studies. Regular encounters with orchestras are firmly anchored in the curriculum from the first semester onwards and ongoing lessons on conducting technique with string quintet  build students’ ability to communicate their own musical ideas through gesture. The course covers a broad symphonic, opera and choral symphonic repertoire from early to new music as well as offering a wide spectrum of supporting courses essential for conductors. In addition to the main subject of conducting, students continue to receive individual tuition in their main instrument. The bachelor programme can thus be studied either as a pianist or as a player of an orchestral instrument with basic pianistic skills.
