DER GRÜNE KAKADU

DER GRÜNE KAKADU

By Arthur Schnitzler

3rd year ensemble project in cooperation with the Stage and Costume Design programmes.

It is a strange place! People come here who are playing criminals - and others who really are without suspecting it. And while they all gather in The Green Cockatoo, those whose presence is unwanted appear outside. But why should the revolution matter to us?

The revolution as show. The show as revolution? Freely interpreting the motto “violence is the necessary condition of revolution”, Schnitzler links up with the Sunday evening culture of the German entertainment industry: a murder takes place. We watch from the sofa and outside it starts to burn. But we have an iron curtain, no need to worry.

The director Rebekka David looks for the 3rd year acting students of the Berlin University of the Arts in the theatre, finds them in the French Revolution and senses why they do not belong there. We perceive the calamitousness of the 21st century and look for an adventure. We came to be entertained and went to be saved. Sometimes doing nothing is the most extreme form of violence.
