Cyberfeminists in Mexico City. Discourses and Tactics

Beitrag in: Conocimiento, poder y transformación digital en América Latina

Mirjana Mitrović analyses the tactics of cyberfeminists in Mexico. In her contribution “Cyberfeminists in Mexico City. Discourses and Tactics”, the author shows that today's (cyber)activists in Mexico witness and are directly affected by a frightening amount of violence against women as well as against media professionals. With different campaigns and actions, they draw attention to this political and social situation. Mitrović deals with technical developments, new forms of communication on platforms such as Facebook, Twitter and YouTube, as well as current forms of feminist protest such as pop feminism. To capture the heterogeneity of Mexican cyberfeminism, the author presents five different collectives. These include, for example, the media-activist collective Luchadoras, the YouTube collective (e)stereotipas and the artivist collective Rexiste.
