Anschließend an das Seminar “More than green - Stadtökologie und Kunst ”, 2024/25, erforschen wir Future Urban Ecologies in Berlin. 

Wo finden sich Transformationen im urbanen Raum, durch die ein gleichberechtigtes Zusammenspiel menschlicher und mehr-als-menschlicher Akteure sichtbar wird? Kann die Stadt als bio-diverser Raum verstanden und gelesen werden? Erweist sich die Kollaboration von Kunst und Wissenschaft als sinnvoll, und welche aktuellen Ansätze gibt es zu diesen Fragestellungen? 

Das Seminar diskutiert Geschichte und Gegenwart der ökologischen Frage und stellt Verbindungen zu künstlerischen Praxen und Initiativen her, die auf vielfältige Weise die Beziehung zwischen Stadt und Natur erforschen, gestalten und politisieren. 

Geplant ist eine Reihe von Exkursionen, z.B. zum Urban Bees-Projekt des ZK/U, zum Mikrokosmos Floating Berlin, ein Berliner Pflanze-Stadtspaziergang von/mit Nika Radić und Georg Spehr, zum Bauhaus Earth-Projekt von/mit Philip Misselwitz, Habitat-Unit der TU Berlin und zum Vorläufer heutiger Ideen, der Obstbaukolonie Eden bei Oranienburg, sowie Ausstellungsbesuche und ein Filmprogramm mit internationalen Film- und Medienkunstwerken zum Thema: Field Work for Future Urban Ecologies. 

Das Seminar ist obligatorisch für Studierende der Fachklasse Experimenteller Film und Medienkunst, KUM, UdK usw. Auch offen für Studierende des Studium Generale. Studierende anderer Universitäten auf Anfrage.

Field Work for Future Urban Ecologies – Artbased Research and Practice

Following on from the seminar ‘More than green – urban ecology and art’, 2024/25, we will explore future urban ecologies in Berlin. 

Where can we find transformations in urban space that reveal an equal interaction between human and more-than-human actors? Can the city be understood and interpreted as a biodiverse space? Does the collaboration between art and science prove to be meaningful, and what current approaches exist to these questions? 

The seminar discusses the history and present of the ecological question and establishes connections to artistic practices and initiatives that explore, shape and politicise the relationship between city and nature in diverse ways. 

A series of field trips is planned, e.g. to the Urban Bees project at ZK/U, to the Floating Berlin microcosm, a Berlin plant city walk by/with Nika Radić and Georg Spehr, to the Bauhaus Earth project by/with Philip Misselwitz, Habitat Unit at TU Berlin, and the precursor to today's ideas, the Eden fruit-growing colony near Oranienburg, as well as visits to exhibitions and a film programme with international film and media artworks on the theme: Field Work for Future Urban Ecologies. 

The seminar is mandatory for students of the Experimental Film and Media Art class, KUM, UdK, etc. It is also open to students of the Studium Generale. Additional guest students upon request.
