“Die Negativität in Form von Hindernis oder Übergang ist konstitutiv für die narrative Spannung. Der Transparenzzwang baut alle Grenzen und Schwellen ab. Transparent wird der Raum, wenn er geglättet, eingeebnet und entinnerlicht wird. Der transparente Raum ist arm an Semantik. Bedeutungen entstehen erst durch Schwellen und Übergänge, ja durch Widerstände. Auch die erste Raumerfahrung in der Kindheit ist eine Schwellenerfahrung. Schwellen und Übergänge sind Zonen des Geheimnisses, der Ungewissheit, der Verwandlung, des Todes, der Furcht, aber auch der Sehnsucht, der Hoffnung und des Erwartens. Ihre Negativität macht die Topologie der Passion aus.”

Total visibility withdraws mystery, distance, and otherness, flattening social relations into measurable data and consumption. In this context, opacity represents privacy, mystery, or interiority. Han laments the loss of these qualities, suggesting that full transparency destroys trust, eros and depth.

Fashion, in contrast, suggests opacity: layers, veils, textures, and changing forms that conceal as much as they reveal. Opacity sustains allure and difference allowing ambiguity, interpretation, and human nuance. The body resists full exposure by playing with surfaces, shapes, light and shadow, positive and negative.
Fashion design becomes a practice of opacity against transparency, preserving the enigmatic and the seductive in a society otherwise obsessed with openness and clarity. Opacity as resistance.
