What is activism and what does it have to do with sound? How can we do activism with_in sound, or use sound with_in activism? How do we sonify public space_s? What role can sound and music in particular play in the transformation processes of our society?
In this seminar, we will discuss different practices of sound activism and sound in activism, bringing in both theory and practice with the aim of collectively developing an artistic intervention in public space. We will look into historic and recent examples of sonic activist interactions, underpinned by the concepts of sonic agency, sonic fiction, and art for the not yet.

Leistungsanforderungen: The students develop a practical planning and implementation of a sound-based action, based on the different methods learned in the seminar. This includes the analysis of a specific, self-selected political-artistic context, and the creative application of individual knowledge. Attendance of all seminar days is also required.

Dieses Seminar ist Teil des Gather Kollektivs (ehemals FEM*_MUSIC*_): Ein partizipatives und hierarchie-armes Projekt, das 2016 begann, um intersektionale Perspektiven auf zeitgenössische Kunst- und Musikproduktion zu diskutieren. Es wird gefördert durch das Berliner Programm zur Förderung der Chancengleichheit in Forschung und Lehre (BCP), der AG Frauenfördergelder der UdK Berlin und durch die Frauen- und Gleichstellungsbeauftragte der UdK Berlin.
Hanna Grześkiewicz ist Forscherin, Kuratorin und Künstlerin, die mit Klang und Worten arbeitet. Sie arbeitet an der Schnittstelle von Wissenschaft, Kunst und Aktivismus und versucht, gegenseitig bereichernde Verbindungen zu schaffen. Sie schreibt, leitet Workshops und kollektive Projekte, arbeitet in partizipatorischen und öffentlichen Kontexten und kreiert Arbeiten für das Radio, darunter die monatliche Sendung morning stories auf Warschaus Radio Kapitał. Hanna ist Diskurskuratorin für das IMPULS Festival und Mitglied des SONIC TOMORROW Kollektivs, mit dem sie das Festival "Situated Ecologies" an der Floating University in Berlin mitkuratiert hat. Sie war Teil der Forschungsgruppe des transmediale Festivals 2022 und hat ihre Forschung u.a. an der Akademie der Künste (Berlin), dem CTM Festival (Berlin), der Universität Kopenhagen, der mdw (Wien), und der FU Berlin vorgestellt. Sie schreibt für eine Vielzahl von Publikationen, darunter APRJA, Positionen, Glissando, Gramophone Magazine, Arts of the Working Class, Rosa Luxemburg Foundation, and openDemocracy. Sie hat an der University of Cambridge und der Humboldt-Universität zu Berlin studiert.
Lucien Danzeisen (*1989 in der Schweiz) ist Komponist_, Improvisator_und Künstler_. Lucien's Kompositionen reichen von Solostücken über diverse Ensemblekonstellationen bis hin zu Orchesterwerken, wobei sowohl rein akustische als auch elektroakustische und elektronische Werke zu hören sind. Lucien absolvierte ein Bachelor-Studium in Komposition und Klavier in Luzern und ein Master-Studium in Komposition in Berlin. Lucien ist an verschiedenen freien Projekten beteiligt, wie z.B. an den GPS-Klanginstallation "FELD_" in Berlin und "Interferenz" auf dem Hasliberg. Unterschiede und Heterogenität sind ein wesentlicher Bestandteil xirs Formensprache. Zeitlich geprägte Medialität ist Teil von Luciens' Ausdrucksspektrums. http://luciendanzeisen.com/
Evelyn Saylor ist Komponistin in Berlin, ursprünglich aus New York City. Sie komponiert vokal- und elektroakustische Musik für Konzert, Theater, zeitgenössischen Tanz und Film. Sie ist auch als Sängerin und Performerin aktiv. Sie erhielt Kompositionsaufträge von der Akademie der Künste Berlin, dem Heroines of Sound Festival, der Stiftung Bauhaus Dessau, dem STEGREIF.orchester, und anderen. Sie hat Musik für  das Münchner Volkstheater, für das Staatstheater Hannover, für das Theater Ensemble The Agency und für den Choreografen Julian Weber, Johanna Ackva, Ruben Reniers, und Dragana Bulut komponiert. Ihre  Werke wurden in der Tischlerei an der Deutschen Oper, in der Akademie der Künste, in HAU2 und HAU3, in KM28, in Uferstudios, in Dock 11 und in anderen Orten in Berlin, sowie in New York, in Kalifornien, und  in Europa aufgeführt. Als Sängerin und Arrangeurin kollaboriert sie mit die Künstlerinnen Dear Reader, Caterina Barbieri, Holly Herndon, Abigail Toll, und anderen. Saylor hat ihre BA in Komposition von Pomona  College in Kalifornien und ihre MA von der Universität der Künste Berlin bekommen, wo sie jetzt unterrichtet. www.evelynsaylor.com

The seminar is part of the Gather Collective (formerly FEM*_MUSIC*_): A participatory and low-hierarchy project which started in 2016 to discuss intersectional perspectives on contemporary art and music production. It is supported by the Berlin Program for the Promotion of Equal Opportunities in Research and Teaching (BCP), the AG Frauenfördergelder of the UdK Berlin and by the Women's and Equality Representative of the UdK Berlin.
Hanna Grześkiewicz is an independent researcher, curator and artist working with sound and words. She works at the intersection of academia, art, and activism, aiming to create mutually enriching connections. She writes, facilitates workshops and collective projects, works in participatory, and public settings, and creates work for radio, which includes the monthly show morning stories on Warsaw's Radio Kapitał. Hanna is the Discourse Curator for IMPULS Festival and a member of the SONIC TOMORROW collective, with which she co-curated the 'Situated Ecologies' Festival at Floating University in Berlin. She was part of transmediale festival's 2022 research group and has presented her work, among others, at the Akademie der Künste (Berlin), CTM Festival (Berlin), University of Copenhagen, mdw (Vienna) and Freie Universität Berlin. Lucien Danzeisen (*1989 in Switzerland) is a composer, improviser and artist. Their compositions range from solo pieces and diverse constellations of Ensembles to orchestral works, featuring purely acoustical as well as electroacustical and electronical works. Lucien completed a bachelor's degree in composition and piano in Lucerne and a master's degree in composition in Berlin. They are involved in various free projects, such as creating the GPS sound installation "FELD_" in Berlin and "Interferenz" on Hasliberg with Lennart Melzer. Their aesthetics range from delicate and rich in detail to rough and tart. Differences and  heterogeneity are a fundamental part of their formal language as much as time-informed mediality is part of their expressive spectrum. http://luciendanzeisen.com/

She is also active as a singer and performer.  She has received commissions from the Akademie der Künste Berlin, the Heroines of Sound Festival, the Stiftung Bauhaus Dessau, the STEGREIF.orchester and others. She has written music for the Münchner Volkstheater, the Staatstheater Hannover, the theater company The Agency, and for the choreographers Julian Weber, Johanna Ackva, Ruben Reniers, and Dragana Bulut. Her work has been performed in the Tischlerei of the Deutsche Oper, the Akademie der Künste, HAU2 and HAU3, KM28, Uferstudios, Dock 11, and other spaces in Berlin, as well as in New York, California, and throughout Europe. As a singer and  arranger, she collaborates with the artists Dear Reader, Caterina Barbieri, Holly Herndon, Abigail Toll, and others.
