Panel Discussion 2

During the fourth Future Day, UdK2030 is hosting two panel discussions. The invited participants from inside and outside the university have agreed on a specific topic to be discussed under the conditions of equality, openness and diversity. After the first 7-minute statements of each participant, the topic will be opened for debate on common ground.

Introduction by moderator - 10-15 minutes

Panel Discussion 2: 17.05 - 18.15 Uhr

Plant and Cultivate the Seeds - Rethinking, Reshaping and Reclaiming The Learning Practices (English)

The discussion on Panel 2 covers the representation of diversity in relation to academics and media. The conversation will be held by different representatives of these topics, some of whom have experience with migration and displacement. The main aim is to develop new strategies to sustain academics and media with a more diverse, democratic and less hierarchical approach.

The panel will be opened with a video by Silent University, which aims to address and reactivate the knowledge of the participants and to make the exchange process mutually beneficial. Two representatives of Off-University, Hazal Gümüş and Nagehan Tokdoğan, will present their vision on different educational systems and the notion of knowledge threatened by anti-democratic and authoritarian regimes. Jörg Heiser will share his experience as Dean of the Faculty of Fine Arts at the UdK - how anti-discrimination policies in the place of work and education need solid, reliable juridically sound structures for appeal. María Inés Plaza Lazo will talk about their multilingual and unconventional methods of multilingual journalism at The Arts of The Working Class newspaper. Finally, Ulaş Aktaş, a new member of the Faculty of Fine Arts at the UdK Berlin, will explore hegemonic and power-critical theories of art and education under postcolonial conditions, and governmental cultures of the digital.

Closing the diversity, equality and inclusion gap is obviously an uphill climb, but it can be tackled through connectedness, emotional literacy and empathy.
