Information for international applicants

Advice for international applicants

The International Student Services team can advise you on all questions regarding your application, visa and financing. By e-mail and in online and in-person consultations: Contact page.

Nationality

Your nationality is irrelevant for application and admission to UdK Berlin. If you would like to study at UdK Berlin, the same rules apply to you as to applicants from Germany.

Language skills

If you do not have German citizenship, you will have to prove your German language skills, depending on the degree programme. Information on required language levels can be found on the application page of the respective degree programme and in the general information under language certificates.

International school graduation or university degree

If you did not obtain your school leaving certificate or university degree in Germany or at a German school abroad, you must have your certificates checked and recognised by uni-assist e.V. before applying. This applies to some Bachelor's and all Master's degree programmes.
Information on whether you need to have your documents recognised can be found on the application page of the respective degree programme and in the information page on uni-assist e.V.(VPD) and APS (Akademische Prüfstelle).

Visa and residence permit

Application

If you require a visa to enter Germany, you should obtain information about a "Studienbewerbervisum" from the German embassy before applying. The UdK Berlin recommends that international applicants apply for a visa as soon as they have received confirmation of their application. This will allow you to travel to Germany on time to take part in the entrance exam  after receiving an invitation.
You will receive the application confirmation with the application number in the campus management portal my.udk-berlin (as an application PDF document) after submitting the online application for admission. Together with the application confirmation, you should also submit the application and admission information to the embassy (see application page of the respective degree programme).

Please note that the issuing of a visa can take several weeks and the dates of the entrance exams cannot be changed! The UdK Berlin cannot influence or speed up this process.
Unfortunately, we cannot give you an invitation or certificate of "conditional admission" for this purpose, as artistic talent is decisive for admission to studies at UdK Berlin. This can only assessed by the Admissions Committee during the regular application procedure.

Study

Please do not enter Germany for studies with a tourist visa. This cannot be converted into a residence permit for study purposes!
Please note that part-time studies are not accepted for a visa / residence permit. You can find more information on the topic of visa / residence before, during and after your studies here.

If you have any questions about studying, your entry and your stay in Germany, please feel free to contact International Student Services.
