Berlin as a Green Archipelago? 11 Theses for the Present
Berlin as a Green Archipelago?
11 Theses for the Present
Malte Wilms
This seminar investigates how urban thought is produced through spatial concepts, planning models, and theoretical projections. By analyzing the Green Archipelago — Rem Koolhaas's contribution to Oswald Mathias Ungers's legendary 1977 Berlin summer school - we will explore how a concept developed under conditions of demographic shrinkage and zero growth continues to resonate today. From questions of climate resilience and land ownership to the housing crisis and polycentric urban development, the Archipelago emerges as a model of latent political and ecological thinking. Students will be asked to suggest texts and projects for joint readings and to prepare short analytical sketches as a basis for essay-writing.
