Common Ground - Orte der Gemeinschaft, ist ein praktisches Filmseminar in dem Studierende zusammen mit geflüchteten Filmemacher*innen und Künstler*innen ein gemeinschaftliches Filmprojekt realisieren. 

Thema des Seminars ist die Gemeinschaft und insbesondere die Orte im urbanen Raum an denen sich neue Formen der Gemeinschaft entwickeln. Kollektive, Kollaborationen. Communities. Konstrukte. Im Diskurs über Migration, Flucht und Ankommen gehen wir den Fragen nach: Was bedeutet Gemeinschaft? Was bedeutet „wir“? Wo und wie manifestiert sich Gemeinschaft? 

Wir besuchen neu entstandene Communities und gemeinschaftliche Projekte in Berlin. Die Teilnehmenden werden in Teamarbeit kurze dokumentarische oder fiktionale Videos erstellen, die in Zusammenarbeit zu einem Episodenfilm montiert werden. Wir werden das Potenzial des Smartphones als ein allumfassendes gemeinschaftliches Werkzeug zum Filmemachen untersuchen und dabei auf kostenlose Apps für Schnitt und Postproduktion zurückgreifen. In diesem Zusammenhang werden wir auch über Sicherheit im Netz, insbesondere bei privaten Inhalten, sprechen.

Kooperationspartner des Projektes sind u.a. Common Ground AstA UdK, Agora Collective und das Z/KU. Das Seminar findet als Weiterentwicklung des Kollisionsprojektes „Colliding Lives - A One-Day-Documentary“ und dem Seminar „Formen der Gemeinschaft“ von Susanne Jaschko sowie in Zusammenarbeit mit Elisabeth Hoschek und Jack Wolf statt.

Zur Vorbereitung für das erste Treffen am 28.4. sollten alle Teilnehmer eine kurze Videoskizze herstellen und zum Treffen mitbringen: Produziert einen kurzen Film (eine Einstellung / eine Plansequenz) in dem eine Gemeinschaft gezeigt wird. Ob es eine Gemeinschaft ist, die ihr euch nähert und beobachtet oder eine Gemeinschaft der ihr selbst zugehörig seid, ist euch frei überlassen. Falls ihr keine eigene Kamera besitzt, könnt ihr auch ein Smartphoneoder sonstige Geräte benutzen.

Das Seminar richtet sich an Studierende des Studiengangs Kunst und Medien sowie Gasthörer.
Das Seminar wird in deutsch und englisch geführt.

Common Ground - Places of Community

In this workshop art and film students from the UdK work together with refugees from similar backgrounds to produce a film. The theme of the workshop is Community, with an emphasis on urban spaces where new forms of community are being developed. 

Collectives, collaborations and communities. Through the examination of terms such as migration, escape and arrival we will investigate the questions of : What is Community? Who are 'We'? And where and how does community manifest itself in the city?

The group will go on excursions to different newly established communities and communal projects in Berlin. Participants will work in teams to produce short documentary or fictional videos, which will be edited into a collaborative serial film. 

We will explore the potential of smartphones as a complete communal film making tool, using free apps (editing, post production as well as apps and devices for on set ) and talk about online safety, DIY censoring methods and what it actually means to upload content, especially private content.

The seminar will be held in english and german.

As a preparation for the seminar every participant should produce a short video and present it at our first meeting on 28. April.  The video should be one shot only showing a community of your choice. It can be a community which you are part of or a community that you observe. If you don’t own a videocamera, you can use a smartphone or another device. 

Students that have participated in Susanne Jaschko’s seminar „Formen der Gemeinschaft“ last semester, can bring the one-minute-video they already produced.
