Born in 1976, Talia Israeli currently lives and works in Tel-Aviv.

Israeli graduated the B.F.A. program at The Bezalel Academy of Art & Design, Jerusalem in 2002. During that time she also studied at The Glasgow School of Art. By the year 2005, Israeli completed the M.F.A program at Goldsmiths, London.

Israeli teaches painting at the Bezalel department of fine arts since 2006 and was the head of the fine arts department at Minshar School of art 2009-11.

Israeli’s paintings are usually concerned with depicting her surroundings, while using various strategies she turns the landscape into a mental image.

“In her recent work, Israeli raises questions about the city’s ontological position even when depicting, seemingly, meaningless details, such as a plant or a chair. The city is not the natural playground of these elements, which could belong in any surrounding. However, when planted in an urban setting, the objects embody the alienation, estrangement and even the loss which follow every city dweller like a shadow. Unlike the realist painting which aims to represent the metropolis while emphasizing the wealth of possibilities, Israeli’s city comes to its fruition through intentional distortion of architectural details and color tonality”. “The figurative structures are usually naked foundations, which support the depicted view. The paintings aim to reveal their inner structure. In some of them, they look like a map of nerves system or other biological phylum.  In some of the structures a vulnerability and a borderline fragility is evident. The grid, which is seen floating above the surface in many of her works, tells us the theme of the paintings is painting itself, its ability to describe the world.  And so, this is a painting in which the nocturnal trip reflects upon painting per se and the artist’s thoughts of loneliness while watching the world”.( Livneh Yitzhak )
